Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play September 22nd

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND

#909 ATLANTA with Fried (-148) over Philadelphia with Suarez at 7:15 PM EST
Off yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the Nationals, the Braves will bounce back with a solid effort here. Atlanta is resting 1.0-game back in the NL East standings and manager Brian Snitker needs to keep his team within reach over the next seven road games before a three-game series against the Mets takes place at home from September 30th to October 2nd.

Up on the bump for the visitors will be ace southpaw Max Fried. In 2022, No. 54 has made 28 starts and been nicked for only 49 earned runs and 147 hits in 175.1 innings of work. Fried struck out 159 and walked 31 on his way to a 13-6 record with a stout 2.52 ERA. Max has pitched well in his last eight starts against the Phillies too. With 45.0 innings completed, Fried has allowed only 15 earned runs and 43 hits. After the math, that equates to a 3-1 tally with a powerful 3.00 ERA.

Young lefty Ranger Suarez will hit the hump for the home team. With 26 starts in the bank, No. 55 has been dusted for 55 earned runs and 130 hits in 140.1 innings. Suarez whiffed 118 and walked 53 on his way to a 9-5 mark with a 3.53 ERA. Fortunately, Ranger has experienced a few problems when pitching at home this season. Inside Citizens Bank Park, Suarez has been smoked for 31 earned runs and 66 hits in 59.1 frames. That’s bad enough for a 3-4 tally with a 4.70 ERA.

Several money-making team trends support this Best Bet. Atlanta has won 24 of its last 31 in the first game of a series, 45 of its last 63 when coming off a loss, 70 of its last 99 overall, and 38 of its last 54 when fighting a left-handed starter. On the other side of the diamond, Philadelphia has quietly dropped five of its last six games.

Back on September 16th, Suarez limited the mighty Braves to just one earned run and two hits in 6.0 innings. Ranger will struggle to keep Hotlanta in check in this rematch. Take Atlanta with Fried. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
