TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH

#974 KANSAS CITY with Singer (-162) over Detroit with Alexander at 2:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off back-to-back blowout losses to the Tigers by finals of 8-4 and 10-2, the Royals will bounce back with a solid effort here. Detroit has dropped 45 of its last 69 on the road and manager A.J. Hinch’s boys aren’t good enough to pull off the sweep.

Strong right-hander Brady Singer will hit the hump for the home team. With 23 appearances in the books this year including 20 starts, No. 51 has allowed only 48 earned runs and 119 hits in 127.2 innings. Singer whiffed 125 and walked 30 on his way to a solid 7-4 mark with a respectable 3.38 ERA. Brady’s efforts inside Kauffman Stadium have been good too. At home, Singer has surrendered only 28 earned runs and 72 hits in 80.2 frames. That shakes down to a 6-2 tally with a reliable 3.12 ERA.

Struggling southpaw Tyler Alexander will counter for the visitors. So far this season, No. 70 has appeared in 22 games (12 starts) and been slammed for 42 earned runs and 84 hits in 72.1 innings of work. Alexander struck out 39 and walked 16 on his way to a 3-9 mark with a soft 5.23 ERA. The road hasn’t been kind to Tyler either. On foreign soil, Alexander has been assaulted for 26 earned runs and 45 hits in just 32.0 frames. That’s bad enough for a 1-6 record with a 7.31 ERA.

There are a number of team trends that support this Best Bet. Detroit has dropped 52 of its last 77 when playing on Sunday, 167 of its last 246 as a guest, and 40 of its last 57 when facing a right-handed starter. On the other side of the park, Kansas City has won six of its last seven on Sunday and seven of its last nine after falling in the first two games of a series.

The Royals have the better arm on the bump and that will prove to be the difference in this AL Central war. Take Kansas City with Singer. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
