TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD

#961 MILWAUKEE with Burnes (-186) over Arizona with Bumgarner at 8:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off a pair of losses to the Diamondbacks, the Brewers will lean on their ace to help them grab a revenge victory in this battle. Milwaukee is now 7.5-games back in the NL Central race and 3.5 games behind in the hunt for the final NL Wild Card spot and the Brew Crew need this victory like blood.

Right-hander Corbin Burnes will grab the pearl for the visiting team. In 2022, No. 39 has made 26 starts and been touched for only 50 earned runs and 112 hits in 158.1 innings. Burnes fanned 195 and walked 43 on his way to a 9-6 tally with a 2.84 ERA. Corbin has been a true road warrior this season too. As a guest, Burnes has been bumped for only 19 earned runs and 47 hits in 73.1 frames. That’s good enough for a 4-3 record with a 2.33 ERA.

Aging southpaw Madison Bumgarner will counter for the D’Backs. So far this season, No. 40 has started 26 games and been slapped for 74 earned runs and 158 hits in 136.2 innings of work. Bumgarner struck out 99 and walked 43 on his way to a dismal 6-13 tally with a weak 4.87 ERA. It appears Madison is running out of gas too. In his last six starts, Bumgarner has really struggled surrendering 31 earned runs and 52 hits in 32.1 frames. That equates to a woeful 0-4 mark with a pitiful 8.63 ERA.

This is not the best wagering spot for the home team either. Arizona has fallen in 75 of its last 108 after scoring two runs or less in its last game, 150 of its last 228 as an underdog, and 60 of its last 83 when facing a foe that allowed two runs or less last. On the other side of the park, Milwaukee has won seven of its last 10 on the road against a left-handed starter.

The Brew Crew need wins to keep their postseason hopes alive and they’re matched up against an opposing arm that is dead right now. Manager Craig Counsell’s boys will break through and grab this important victory. Take Milwaukee with Burnes. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
