TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, AUGUST 14TH

#975 MINNESOTA with Archer (-142) over LA Angels with Davidson at 4:07 PM EST
In a bad mood off yesterday’s 5-3 road loss to the Halos and with blemishes in four of their last five games, the Twins will make sure they grab this dub and pick up the series win. Minnesota is resting 1.5-games back in the hunt for the AL Central lead and manager Rocco Baldelli’s boys can’t afford another loss to an Angels crew that is 14.0-games under the .500 mark.

Veteran right-hander Chris Archer will hit the hump for the visitors. In 2022, No. 17 has made 19 starts and been nicked for 35 earned runs and 61 hits in 78.1 innings. Archer whiffed 66 and walked 40 on his way to a 2-5 tally with a 4.02 ERA. Chris has enjoyed tremendous success against the Halos too. Since May 16th, 2014, Archer has faced the Angels seven times and surrendered nine earned runs and 31 hits in 43.1 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 5-1 record with a strong 1.87 ERA.

Young left-hander Tucker Davidson will toe the rubber for the home team. While with the Braves and Angels this season, No. 32 has made five appearances (four starts) and allowed 17 earned runs and 21 hits in only 19.1 innings of work. Davidson struck out 11 and walked 18 on his way to a 1-3 record with a rough 7.91 ERA. Tucker’s first performance for LA didn’t go very well either. Matched up against the M’s in Seattle on August 7th, Davidson was decked for six earned runs and six hits in 4.0 frames. Tucker was tagged with the loss in the Mariners 6-3 victory.

There are a handful of elite team trends that support this investment. Minnesota has tasted victory in five of its last six after allowing five runs or more last and five of its last seven when coming off a loss. On the other side of the stadium, Los Angeles 15 of its last 20 after scoring five runs or more, 25 of its last 35 when playing in its own backyard, and 35 of its last 51 at home facing a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage greater than .500.

On the outside looking in at the division and the AL Wild Card race, the Twins will pick up a huge win over the Halos before hosting the Royals and Rangers over the next seven games. Take Minnesota with Archer. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
