#975 MINNESOTA with Mahle (-126) over LA Angels with Sandoval at 9:38 PM EST
In a bad mood off three consecutive losses and now in second place in the AL Central a full 1.5-games back of the Guardians, the Twins will travel to Angel Stadium of Anaheim and do a number on the Halos. Los Angeles enters this matchup off a three-game sweep on the road against Oakland and this will be a huge step up in class for manager Phil Nevin and his boys.
Former Reds righty Tyler Mahle will hit the hump for the visitors. With 20 combined starts in the bank this year, No. 51 has been tripped for 55 earned runs and 96 hits in 110.1 innings. Mahle fanned 119 and issued 40 free passes on his way to a 5-7 record with a 4.49 ERA. The road has been kind to Tyler this season too. As a guest, Mahle has been touched for only 17 earned runs and 28 hits in 40.0 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 3-2 record with a respectable 3.83 ERA.
Left-hander Patrick Sandoval will counter for the home squad. In 2002, No. 43 has made 18 trips to the mound in a starting role and surrendered 36 earned runs and 95 hits in 95.0 innings of work. Sandoval struck out 102 and walked 45 on his way to a 3-7 mark with a 3.41 ERA. Patrick isn’t in the best of form either. Since July 2nd, Sandoval has made six starts and been zapped for 17 earned runs and 36 hits in 30.0 frames. That equates to a shocking 0-5 tally with a rough 5.10 ERA.
This is a poor wagering spot for the Halos as well. Los Angeles has fallen in 46 of its last 68 overall, 37 of its last 54 at home facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage greater than .500, 24 of its last 33 when playing in their own backyard, and 16 of its last 21 in the first game of a series.
The Twins next 10 games come against opponents that own a combined 145-191 record and they need to dominate those weaker foes in order to put the pressure on the Guardians. Take Minnesota with Mahle. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
