#927 NY YANKEES with Montas (-136) over St. Louis with Wainwright at 2:15 PM EST
With four blemishes in their last four games and in danger of being swept by the Redbirds, the Pinstripes will bounce back with a little help from a newly acquired arm. The Bronx Bombers have three games on the road against the M’s and BoSox on deck and manager Aaron Boone knows his troops need this victory badly in order to get things turned around.

Former Athletics right-hander Frankie Montas will toe the rubber for the visitors. With 19 starts in the books for Oakland this year, No. 47 surrendered 37 earned runs and 91 hits in 104.2 innings. Montas fanned 109 and issued 28 free passes on his way to a 4-9 tally with a strong 3.18 ERA. Frankie’s last two July outings were solid too. Facing the Astros and Tigers, Montas was nicked for only two earned runs and 10 hits in 8.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 1-0 mark with a 2.25 ERA.

Aging right-hander Adam Wainwright will take the mound for the home team. In 2022, No. 50 has made 21 starts and been zapped for 45 earned runs and 121 hits in 130.1 innings of work. Wainwright struck out 103 and walked 34 on his way to an 8-8 mark with a 3.11 ERA. Adam’s last three starts were nothing special either. Facing the Cubs, Blue Jays, and Reds, Wainwright surrendered eight earned runs and 16 hits in 19.1 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 2-1 tally with a 3.72 ERA.

There are a number of strong team trends that support this investment. New York has tasted victory in 24 of its last 33 after scoring two runs or less last, 52 of its last 75 when fighting teams from the NL Central, and 20 of its last 29 facing a foe that allowed two runs or less previously. On the other side of Busch Stadium, St. Louis has dropped five of its last seven on Sunday and 15 of its last 22 facing teams from the AL East.

The Yankees lead over the Blue Jays rests at 10.5-games, and they need a win here to make sure that margin remains at double-digits. Take New York with Montas. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
