#983 NY YANKEES with German (-112) over St. Louis with Montgomery at 7:15 PM EST
Off three consecutive losses, the Bronx Bombers will stroll back into Busch Stadium and pound the Redbirds. New York owns the second-best record in Major League Baseball and manager Aaron Boone will have his troops ready to compete here.
Veteran right-hander Domingo German will take the mound for the visitors. With just three starts in the books in 2022, No. 55 has allowed nine earned runs and 17 hits in 12.2 innings. German fanned 10 and issued six free passes on his way to a 1-1 record and a surprising 6.39 ERA. Domingo health is improving, and he is getting stronger and more polished on the bump with each outing. Back from a right shoulder injury that kept him out of the rotation until July 21st, German surrendered only four earned runs and 11 hits in 9.2 frames in his last two performances. That was good enough for a 1-0 tally with a 3.73 ERA.
Left-hander Jordan Montgomery will grab the pearl for the home team, and this will be an emotional outing for the former Yankees hurler. With 21 starts in the bank for the Bronx Bombers this season, No. 47 was punched for 47 earned runs and 103 hits in 114.2 innings of work. Montgomery struck out 97 and walked 23 on his way to a 3-3 record with a 3.69 ERA. Nerves are likely to get the best of Jordan in this outing. Montgomery wanted to be in Pinstripes for life and he was incredibly upset when he learned he had been traded to the Cardinals.
Technically speaking, this is a strong wagering spot for the visitors. New York has won 39 of its last 53 when fighting a left-handed starter, 57 of its last 80 in the second game of a series, 52 of its last 74 when fighting NL Central foes, and 84 of its last 124 when playing on Saturday. On the other side of the chalk line, St. Louis has slipped seven of its last 10 in interleague play and 15 of its last 21 when facing opponents from the AL East.
With Montgomery struggling to focus against his former squad, the Yankees will jump all over this southpaw early and cruise to an easy revenge victory. Take New York with German. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
