TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3RD
#907 MILWAUKEE RUN-LINE with Peralta (-1′ -130) over Pittsburgh with Beede at 7:05 PM EST
In a bad mood off last night’s surprising 5-3 road loss to the Bucs, the Brew Crew will make sure they take care of business in this rematch. Milwaukee’s slim lead in the NL Central rests at 2.0-games and the Brewers simply can’t afford losses to a Pittsburgh squad that rests 21.0-games under the .500 mark.
Grabbing the pearl for the visitors will be right-hander Freddy Peralta. With eight starts completed this season, No. 51 has allowed 19 earned runs and 33 hits in 38.2 innings. Peralta fanned 50 and walked 13 on his way to a 3-2 record with a 4.42 ERA. This will be Freddy’s first outing since May 22nd. Peralta has been on the 60-day IR with a right shoulder and has looked solid in two minor league rehab assignments.
With the Jose Quintana trade, reliever Tyler Beede will get a rare start for the home team in this right-back rematch. So far this year, No. 0 has appeared in 17 games for the Bucs and been touched for nine earned runs and 24 hits in 30.2 innings. Beede struck out 20 and issued 11 free passes on his way to a 1-1 tally with a 2.64 ERA. With limited innings completed, Tyler’s work at home is worth noting too. Inside the friendly confines of PNC Park, Beede has surrendered seven earned runs and 20 hits in 19.2 frames. That shakes down to an 0-0 mark with a 3.20 ERA.
With both arms carrying question marks, the following team trends will help push this Best Bet over the top. Milwaukee has tasted victory in seven of its last 10 battles, 28 of its last 48 against division foes, and 17 of its last 25 when competing on Wednesday. On the other side of the field, Pittsburgh has fallen in 75 of its last 111 against NL Central foes, 38 of its last 56 coming off a win, and 12 of its last 16 in the second game of a series.
The Brew Crew have a brutal schedule on the way against the Devil Rays, Cardinals, and Dodgers, and they need to manhandle this dismal Pirates group in order to stay on top in the division. Take Milwaukee on the run-line with Peralta. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
