TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION WEDNESDAY, JULY 27TH
#954 LA DODGERS RUN-LINE with Heaney (-1′ -145) over Washington with Corbin at 3:10 PM EST
Off a pair of surprising home losses to the Nats by finals of 8-3 and 4-1, the Dodgers will flex their muscles and pick up a solid win before heading to Denver tomorrow to face the Rockies. Los Angeles is staring at eight straight division road games, and they’ll be sure to grab this important dub.
To stop the bleeding, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will hand the pearl to southpaw Andrew Heaney. So far this season, No. 28 has made only three starts because of shoulder issues and been touched for one earned run and nine hits in 15.1 innings of work. Heaney struck out 23 and walked four on his way to a 1-0 tally and a solid 0.59 ERA. Andrew’s last performance came back on June 19th when he limited the Guardians to one earned run and five hits in 5.0 frames. According to Roberts, Heaney is expected to go about 75 pitches which will be more than enough to dominate this overachieving Nats squad.
Countering for the visitors is struggling left-hander Patrick Corbin. In his last three July starts, No. 46 has been smashed for 14 earned runs and 25 hits in 16.0 innings. Corbin whiffed 19 and walked five on his way to a woeful 0-3 mark with a stiff 7.88 ERA. Foreign soil has been a real problem for Patrick too. As a guest, Corbin has been crushed for 38 earned runs and 73 hits in 46.1 frames. That’s bad enough for a 1-7 tally with a woeful 7.38 ERA.
Several powerful team trends support this Best Bet too. Los Angeles has won 58 of its last 73 when fighting an opponent that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .400, 39 of its last 53 at home fighting a left-handed starter, 37 of its last 53 coming off a loss, and 121 of its last 178 in the third game of a series. On the other side of Dodger Stadium, Washington has fallen in 36 of its last 53 coming off a win, 36 of its last 51 in the third game of a series, and 19 of its last 26 as a guest facing a left-handed starter.
After getting slammed by the Nats in the first two games of this series, the Dodgers will avoid the sweep and scoop up a blowout of their own. Take Los Angeles on the Run-Line with Heaney. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
