TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, JULY 25TH

#963 TAMPA BAY with Kluber (-120) over Baltimore with Voth at 7:05 PM EST
Off a pair of road losses to the Royals and still on a respectable 7-3 run in their last 10 games, the Devil Rays will make sure they grab this important victory. Tampa Bay has slipped out of the No. 1 slot in the race for the AL Wild Card and they need this dub to have a shot at getting it back.

Up on the hill for the visitors will be veteran right-hander Corey Kluber. So far this season, No. 28 has made 18 starts and been clipped for 39 earned runs and 90 hits in 94.0 innings of work. Kluber struck out 82 and walked 15 on his way to a 6-5 record with a reliable 3.73 ERA. Corey has dominated the O’s lately too. Since 2017, Kluber has faced Baltimore nine times and allowed 18 earned runs and 46 hits in 52.0 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 5-1 tally with a dependable 3.12 ERA.

Countering for the home team will be righty Austin Voth. Since coming over from the Nationals, No. 51 has appeared in nine games for the Orioles (five starts) and been slapped for nine earned runs and 22 hits in 23.2 innings. Voth fanned 23 and issued seven free passes on his way to a 1-1 mark with a 3.42 ERA. Regardless of which team he was on this season, Austin had all kinds of problems pitching at night. With the candles flickering, Voth was crushed for 24 earned runs and 35 hits in 22.0 frames. After working the math, that equates to a lofty 9.82 ERA.

Plenty of powerful team trends support this diamond wager. Tampa Bay has tasted victory in eight of its last nine against division foes, 125 of its last 186 when facing a foe that scored two runs or less last, and 47 of its last 64 in this series. On the other side of the field, Baltimore has dropped 148 of its last 215 in the first game of a series, 77 of its last 110 against AL East opponents, and 262 of its last 369 when fighting a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage greater than .500.

Currently resting in the No. 2 slot of the AL’s three wild-card teams, manager Kevin Cash’s kids will bounce back with a solid effort here. Take Tampa Bay with Kluber. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
