#930 SAN FRANCISCO with Cobb (-154) over Chicago with Lynn at 10:15 PM EST
In a bad mood off that one-run home loss to the Motor City Kitty’s, look for the Gints to do a number on the visiting Pale Hose. Chicago limps into this matchup on a dismal 2-6 run and manager Tony La Russa’s boys will continue their slide down the standings here.

Veteran right-hander Alex Cobb will hit the hump for the home team. With 10 starts to his credit this season, No. 38 has been touched for 28 earned runs and 53 hits in 46.0 innings of work. Cobb struck out 53 and walked 14 on his way to a 3-3 tally with a 5.48 ERA. Alex’s last two outings have been his best too. Facing the Pirates and Reds, Cobb was nicked for only four earned runs and eight hits in 10.0 frames. Even though Alex failed to earn a decision in either game, his 3.60 ERA is certainly noteworthy.

Strong righty Lance Lynn will toe the rubber for the visitors. With three starts in the books against the O’s, Jays, and Tigers, No. 33 was tapped for 11 earned runs and 20 hits in 16.0 innings. Lynn whiffed 17 and walked three on his way to a 1-1 mark with an elevated 6.19 ERA. Lance’s last outing versus the Orioles wasn’t his best either. With 6.2 frames completed, Lynn was lashed for five earned runs and six hits. Lance was tagged with the loss in Baltimore’s 6-2 victory.

There are many solid team trends that back up this Best Bet. San Francisco has won 14 of its last 18 when matched up against an American League foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500, eight of its last 11 when coming off a loss, 24 of its last 33 entering off a day of rest, and 49 of its last 73 in the first game of a series. On the other side of Oracle Park, Chicago has slipped in 27 of its last 39 as a guest facing a foe with a winning record and 12 of its last 16 when fighting NL West opponents.

Resting in third place in the division a full 6.5-games back from the top spot, the Giants need to pick up the pace at home to stay competitive in the NL West. Take San Francisco with Cobb. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
