#952 PHILADELPHIA with Nola (-158) over Atlanta with Anderson at 6:05 PM EST
Off a pair of losses to the Braves and now resting 8.0-games back in the NL East standings, the Phillies will approach this game with a sense of urgency. Philadelphia holds a mediocre 19-19 record inside Citizens Bank Park and manager Rob Thompson knows his troops must play better at home in order to stay competitive in the division.
Veteran right-hander Aaron Nola will toe the rubber for the home team. So far this year, No. 27 has made 15 starts for the Phils and been nicked for 32 earned runs and 74 hits in 96.2 innings. Nola whiffed 109 and walked only 13 on his way to a 4-5 mark with a proud 2.98 ERA. Aaron’s last four outings have been outstanding too. With 30.0 innings in the bank, Nola has surrendered just three earned runs and 22 hits. After the math, that adds up to a 1-1 tally with a strong 0.90 ERA.
Young righty Ian Anderson will grab the pearl for the visitors. With 14 starts completed this season, No. 36 has surrendered 38 earned runs and 72 hits in 74.1 innings. Anderson struck out 65 and walked 36 (signs of control problems) on his way to a 6-4 mark with a 4.60 ERA. Ian’s last seven starts haven’t been that great either. Anderson was roughed up for 23 earned runs and 42 hits in 38.1 frames. That shakes down to a 3-2 tally with a soft 5.40 ERA.
A trio of lucrative team trends support the host in this battle. Philadelphia has won six of its last seven in the third game of a series, 12 of its last 16 when facing a right-handed starter, and 35 of its last 52 after dropping the first two games of a series.
Respect is given to the Braves sizzling 21-5 mark in the month of June. However, the Phillies have the better arm on the bump and that will prove to be the difference in this NL East war. Take Philadelphia with Nola. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
