TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, JUNE 28TH
#959 LA DODGERS RUN-LINE with Kershaw (-2′ +105) over Colorado with Freeland at 8:40 PM EST
After getting stuffed 4-0 at Coors Field last night, the Dodgers will have no trouble extending the margin in this division battle. Colorado rests 10.0 games under the .500 mark at press time and the Rocks don’t match up well at all in this contest. Let’s take a look inside the numbers.
Veteran left-hander Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the road team. With eight starts in the bank this year, No. 22 has been at his absolute best allowing just 10 earned runs and 34 hits in 45.0 innings. Kershaw fanned 47 and walked only seven on his way to a solid 5-1 record with an elite 2.00 ERA. Clayton’s efforts on the road are worth noting too. As a guest, Kershaw has surrendered just four earned runs and 19 hits in 29.0 frames. That’s good enough for a 4-1 tally and a stunning 1.24 ERA.
Southpaw Kyle Freeland will counter for the host. In 2022, No. 21 has made 14 starts and been tapped for 38 earned runs and 86 hits in 79.2 innings of work. Freeland struck out 53 and walked 23 on his way to a 3-5 tally with a 4.29 ERA. Pitching at home has been a problem for Kyle too. In his own backyard, Freeland was zapped for 27 earned runs and 56 hits in 45.2 frames. That’s bad enough for a 2-3 record and a weak 5.32 ERA.
Several really strong team trends support this wager. Los Angeles has won 41 of its last 51 after scoring two runs or less in its last game, 40 of its last 52 in the second game of a series, 139 of its last 201 when facing a losing team, and 35 of its last 51 when coming off a loss. On the other side of the yard, Colorado has fallen in 14 of its last 17 when coming off a win and eight of its last nine in the second game of a series.
The Dodgers offense is ranked second in scoring averaging 5.06 runs per game and they’ll have no trouble lighting up the scoreboard especially off yesterday’s shutout loss. Take Los Angeles on the run-line with Kershaw. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
