TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, JUNE 12TH
#968 CHICAGO with Kopech (-149) over Texas with Gray at 2:10 PM EST
In a bad mood off yesterday’s home loss to the Rangers and still under the .500-mark in the Windy City (13-16), the Pale Hose will bounce back with a solid effort in this American League battle. The Lone Stars are just 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they’ll have issues coming off their high-scoring 11-9 victory on Saturday.
Up on the bump for the home team will be right-hander Michael Kopech. With 10 starts in the books this season, No. 34 has pitched extremely well allowing only 11 earned runs and 24 hits in 51.0 innings of work. Kopech struck out 51 and walked 24 on his way to a 2-2 tally with a sensational 1.94 ERA. Michael has pitched excellent inside Guaranteed Rate Field too. In his own backyard, Kopech has allowed just five earned runs and eight hits in 28.0 frames. That shakes down to a 1-1 mark with an outstanding 1.61 ERA.
Veteran righty Jon Gray will toe the rubber for the visitors. In his last three starts against the Guardians, Devil Rays, and Athletics, No. 22 was torched for 11 earned runs and 14 hits in 18.0 innings. Gray whiffed 20 and issued nine free passes en route to an 0-1 mark with a feeble 5.50 ERA. The road has given Big Jon problems too. As a guest, Gray has been gashed for 22 earned runs and 30 hits in 33.1 frames. That’s bad enough for an 0-3 record with a rough 5.94 ERA.
A number of highly profitable trends support this investment. Chicago has won 75 of its last 111 when priced as a home favorite, 46 of its last 68 at home facing a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .500, and 25 of its last 33 in this series when playing in the Windy City. On the other side of the field, Texas has fallen in 88 of its last 130 when priced as a road underdog and 55 of its last 75 as a guest facing a right-handed starter.
Resting 3.0-games under the .500-mark with a 27-30 record and 6.0-games behind the Twins for the top spot in the AL Central, the White Sox need to pick up the pace immediately. Take Chicago with Kopech. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
