TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, JUNE 9TH

OVER (9.5 +100) Kanas City with Bubic vs Baltimore with Zimmermann at 8:10 PM EST
Even though the O’s come in averaging 3.93 runs per game and the Royals inking an average of 3.69 runs per game, both offenses will show up here and this total will cruise well over the posted mark.

The starting pitchers will help out in a big way too. Kansas City southpaw Kris Bubic has appeared in seven games for the Royals (six starts) and been smashed for 19 earned runs and 24 hits in 18.1 frames. Bubic has struck out 13 and walked 14 on his way to an ugly 0-3 record and a woeful 9.33 ERA. Baltimore will go with aging right-hander Jordan Lyles. With 11 starts in the books this season, Lyles has been zapped for 31 earned runs and 73 hits in 62.0 frames. Jordan has whiffed 54 and walked 19 on his way to a 3-4 tally with a 4.50 ERA. In his last three outings against the M’s, BoSox, and Bronx Bombers, Lyles was slammed for 10 earned runs and 23 hits in 16.0 innings. After the math, that shakes down to a 1-0 record with a weak 5.63 ERA.

There are a few team trends that support this investment too. Kansas City has gone over the total in 13 of its last 19 overall, seven of its last 10 at home, and five of its last seven when matched up against a left-handed starter. On the other side of the yard, Baltimore has soared over the posted mark in seven straight in the first game of a series and seven of its last nine overall.

With both starting arms on shaky ground, both offenses will surge in this series opener. Take the OVER. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
