TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, MAY 28TH

#967 CLEVELAND with Bieber (-165) over Detroit with Faedo at 7:10 PM EST
Off three consecutive straight up losses, the Guardians will get after it in the Motor City. Detroit has quietly won two straight and that mini streak will come to an end right here.

Up on the bump for the road team will be right-hander Shane Bieber. With eight starts in the bank this season, No. 57 has been in a zone allowing only 18 earned runs and 43 hits in 45.2 innings. Bieber fanned 46 and walked 14 en route to a 1-3 tally with a respectable 3.55 ERA. Shane has owned the Tigers too. In his last nine starts against Detroit, Bieber has been scratched for only 16 earned runs and 39 hits in 62.1 frames. After the math, that equates to a 6-3 record with a strong 2.30 ERA.

Rookie righty Alex Faedo will counter for the home team. In his last performance on the road against the Guardians, No. 49 was nipped for two earned runs and six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Faedo walked two, served up one home run, and grabbed the “W” in Detroit’s 4-2 victory. Overall, with four career starts to his name, Alex has been tagged for only seven earned runs and 22 hits in 21.0 frames. That adds up to a 1-1 record with a 3.00 ERA.

There are a number of power angles that work against the Motor City Kitty’s too. Detroit has fallen in 21 of its last 31 overall, 123 of its last 181 against division foes, 40 of its last 56 when playing on Friday, and 17 of its last 23 priced as an underdog. On the other side of the yard, Cleveland has come out on top in seven of its last 10 when favored.

Resting 5.0-games under the .500-mark and 7.0-games back in the division, the Guardians need road wins like blood. Take Cleveland with Bieber. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
