Frustrated off a pair of losses to the M’s and Halos, the Devil Rays will get after it in LA on Tuesday evening. The Angels enter this non-division battle off a couple of solid wins over Washington and Tampa Bay and manager Joe Maddon’s crew will have trouble in this matchup.
Seasoned right-hander Corey Kluber will take the mound for the Rays. With five starts in the bank this season, No. 28 has pitched well allowing only seven earned runs and 22 hits in 26.2 innings of work. Kluber whiffed 25 and walked six on his way to a 1-1 tally with an elite 2.36 ERA. Corey has pitched well against Los Angeles too. In eight career starts against the Halos, Kluber sports a solid 3-2 record with a strong 3.86 ERA.
Young southpaw Reid Detmers will take the mound for the home team. So far this season, No. 48 has made five starts for LA and been punched for 13 earned runs and 18 hits in 22.0 frames. Detmers owns a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 18-7 and carries a 1-1 tally with a soft 5.32 ERA. Overall, with 10 career starts completed, Reid has been tagged for 30 earned runs and 44 hits in 42.2 innings. That shakes down to a 2-4 mark with an elevated 6.33 ERA.
There are plenty of solid trends that support this money-maker. Tampa Bay has won eight of its last 10 as a guest, 41 of its last 58 when favored, 46 of its last 66 in the second game of a series, and 43 of its last 63 as road chalk. On the other side of the chalk line, Los Angeles has fallen in eight of its last 10 when priced as a home dog.
