TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH
#645 AKRON (-8) over Northern Illinois at 8 PM EST
Checking in off back-to-back SU and ATS wins over Miami, Akron will have no trouble pounding Northern Illinois on Tuesday evening. The Huskies enter this contest off an ugly 22-point road loss at Bowling Green and head coach Rashon Burno and his boys will be in a heap of trouble here.
Holding a 20-8 SU record in the last 28 meetings, the Zips haven’t had much trouble in this series. Even better, when priced as a road favorite (or pick) and competing against an opponent that hits the hardwood off a SU and ATS loss, UA owns a highly profitable 47-14 SU and 40-21 ATS mark. In this run checking in off a straight up win of five points or more, head coach John Groce’s troops improve to a powerful 32-6 SU and 29-9 ATS including a sizzling 32-4 SU and 29-7 ATS if they hold a team won/loss percentage of .575 or higher.
Fading NIU won’t take much either. Since March 6th, 2020, the Huskies are on a horrible 9-31 SU and 14-25-1 ATS run including a disturbing 2-16 SU and 4-14 ATS in this set provided they are lined up against a foe that busts in with confidence off a straight up win. Also, at home fighting a foe that arrives off a pointspread victory on the road, Northern Illinois owns a weak 15-25-1 ATS mark including a depressing 9-22 SU and 10-20-1 ATS provided the Huskies are priced as an underdog or a favorite of -3.5 or less.
The Zips come into this MAC battle averaging 71.6 points per game and they’ll have no trouble running all over an NIU bunch that owns a scoring margin of -8.3 points per battle. Take Akron. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
