Tom Stryker’s Free Basketball Play January 22nd

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, JANUARY 22ND

#772 WYOMING (-10′) over New Mexico at 7:30 PM EST
With a pair of challenging games at Boise State and Air Force on deck, Wyoming will have no trouble racing past visiting New Mexico on Saturday night. The Lobos stumble into this contest 0-for-January (0-5 SU) and this will be a difficult venture for head coach Richard Pitino and his kids.

Even though the Cowboys won and covered both meetings last year, there is no way they will take this battle lightly. Dating back to January 5th, 2008, Wyoming holds a soft 8-23 SU mark (14-17 ATS) in this series. Thankfully, when hosting an opponent that arrives off a straight up loss, the Pokes own a respectable 11-3 SU and 7-3-1 ATS record. Also, in their last 13 when running the court against a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .500, head coach Jeff Linder and his troops hold a respectable 13-0 SU and 8-3-1 ATS tally.

The road hasn’t exactly been kind to New Mexico either. As a guest, the Lobos hold a weak 24-57 SU and 32-46 ATS record in their last 81 games. In this run competing against a foe that checks in with confidence off a straight up win, UNM falls to a woeful 9-39 SU and 16-30 ATS including a rough 9-30 SU and 10-27 ATS if Coach Pitino’s crew are priced as a favorite or an underdog of +11.5 or less. With those three parameters live and New Mexico fighting an opponent that played in the comforts of home last, this team trend crashes to a nasty 4-20 SU and 4-18 ATS.

Defensively, the Lobos are a work in progress right now allowing an average of 78.1 points per game. The Cowboys are ranked second in the conference in points per game (77.5) and three-point shots (9.4) and they’ll have no trouble pulling away in this Mountain West battle. Take Wyoming. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
