TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH
#359 PENN STATE (-10′) over Maryland at 3:30 PM EST
Off three consecutive straight up losses to Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio State by a combined 14 points, Penn State will travel to Turtle Country and pound Maryland. The Terrapins enter this Big 10 battle off a 38-35 home win over Indiana and this is going to be a massive challenge for head coach Mike Locksley and his men.
If the three consecutive conference losses won’t light a fire under the Nittany Lions, then the memory of last year’s crushing home loss to the Terps will do the trick. On November 7th, 2020, PSU (-27′) hosted Maryland and lost outright 35-19! This is actually a solid wagering spot for PSU. The Nittany Lions have played well on foreign soil notching a respectable 16-9 SU and ATS record in their last 25 games including 14-5 SU and ATS provided their opponent owns a team won/loss percentage less than .875. Also, in Big 10 play holding a team won/loss percentage of .501 or better, head coach James Franklin’s troops sport a reliable 29-10 SU and 24-15 ATS record. Finally, revenging road favorites that take the field off two or more straight up losses hold a money-making 42-23 ATS tally provided they check in off a road war. If our “play on” side is laying -2.5 or more, this situation jumps to a sensational 36-13 ATS.
This isn’t the greatest wagering spot for Maryland either. When coming off a straight up win, the Terrapins have been a poor investment posting a pathetic 12-25 SU and 7-28 ATS mark including a ridiculous 2-17 SU and ATS if they check in off a Big 10 game. In this run priced between -12 and +27, the Turtles drop to a shocking 0-16 SU and ATS. Also, when priced as an underdog of +9.5 or more and fighting a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage of .501 or higher, Maryland owns a dismal 37-67-3 ATS tally including a miserable 9-25-1 ATS in its last 35 at game nine of the season or later.
In a serious payback mode and with a home war with No. 9 Michigan on deck, Coach Franklin knows his Nittany Lions need to take care of business here. Take Penn State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
