TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2ND

#151 NEVADA (+5) over Boise St at 3:30 PM EST
With a week of rest and off that 21-point road loss at Kansas State, Nevada will travel to Boise on Saturday and give the Broncos a game. BSU enter this conference battle off a SU and ATS road win at USU and head coach Andy Avalos and his troops will be challenged in a big way here.

The history in this series is certainly noted. The Wolf Pack own a dismal 1-16 SU and 6-10-1 ATS record in the last 17 meetings. However, UNR holds a profitable 21-11 SU and 20-10 ATS mark in its last 31 games including a golden 9-0 ATS if the Pack are priced as an underdog of +13 or less. In addition, when coming off a SU and ATS loss, head coach Jay Norvell’s boys have responded by inking a rewarding 20-12 SU and 22-7-1 ATS tally in their next game. Provided the Wolf Pack are matched up against an opponent that arrives off a conference war, this trend jumps to a strong 14-7 SU and 17-3-1 ATS including a nearly perfect 14-1-1 ATS if they are priced as an underdog or a favorite of -6.5 or less.

Back in the day, fading Boise State on the Smurf Turf was never recommended. However, since 2010, the Broncos have experienced a few problems playing at home notching a soft 25-40-1 ATS record. In this run taking the field with confidence off a straight up win, BSU falls to a rough 15-30 ATS including an ugly 9-22 ATS if they check in off a conference game. With those three parameters live and Coach Avalos’ kids hitting the field off a double-digit straight up victory, this team trend crashes to a dismal 6-19 ATS.

Defensively, the Broncos are allowing an average of 420.0 yards per game this season and that high-octane Wolf Pack offense will have no trouble moving the chains. Off the frustrating loss to the Wildcats and locked into a serious revenge mode, the rested Pack will pull off the upset. Take Nevada. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
