In a bad mood of Sunday’s 2-1 road loss to the Pale Hose and with blemishes in five of their last seven games, the Red Sox will rally the troops and pick up a huge win in the Emerald City. Seattle busts into this matchup off a pair of home losses to Arizona and this will prove to be a tough series for the M’s.
Toeing the rubber for the BoSox will be lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. In his last performance at home against the Devil Rays, No. 57 was roughed up for six earned runs and eight hits in only 3.2 innings. Rodriguez struck out three, served up two home runs, and was tagged with the loss in Tampa Bay’s 12-7 victory. Thankfully, Eduardo has been at his best as a guest this year. On foreign soil, Rodriguez has surrendered only 41 earned runs and 91 hits in 83.2 frames. That’s good enough for a 7-4 record and a 4.41 ERA.
Struggling right-hander Logan Gilbert will take the mound for the Mariners. In his last five starts, No. 36 has hit the rookie wall allowing 21 earned runs and 35 hits in 22.0 innings of work. Gilbert has struck out 22, walked three, and served up six gopher balls on his way to an 0-2 mark and a stiff 8.59 ERA. Pitching under the lights has been an issue for Logan too. At night, Gilbert has been zapped for 31 earned runs and 55 hits in 44.2 frames. That’s bad enough for a 1-2 tally with an elevated 6.25 ERA.
There are a couple of power trends that support this investment. Boston has won seven of its last nine when playing on Monday and five of its last seven in this series. On the other side of the field, Seattle has lost six of its last seven with Gilbert holding the pearl.
With a nine-game deficit in the division, the Red Sox know their ticket to October baseball will be via the Wild Card route. The BoSox have eight home games on deck, and they need to make this series in Seattle count. Take Boston with Rodriguez. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
