TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH

#956 PHILADELPHIA RUN-LINE with Suarez (-1.5 +107) over Colorado with Senzatela at 7:05 PM EST
Off a pair of rough losses on the road to the Brewers, the Phillies will return home and totally dominate the poor-traveling Rockies. Colorado enters this contest off four consecutive straight up losses and this will be a difficult trip for manager Bud Black and his crew.

Up on the bump for the home team will be southpaw Ranger Suarez. Since August 2nd, No. 55 has made seven starts for the Phillies and been touched for only six earned runs and 24 hits in 31.2 innings of work. Suarez fanned 30 and walked 15 on his way to a 1-1 record and a blistering 1.71 ERA. Ranger has been outstanding at home this year too. Inside the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park, Suarez has been nicked for only six earned runs and 22 hits in 38.2 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 5-0 tally with a strong 1.40 ERA.

Veteran righty Antonio Senzatela will counter for the visitors. In his last three outings, No. 49 was cracked for four earned runs and 13 hits in 20.0 innings. Senzatela whiffed 14 and walked three on his way to a 2-0 mark an elite 1.80 ERA. Unfortunately, the road hasn’t been kind to Antonio. On foreign soil, Senzatela has been ripped for 27 earned runs and 65 hits in 53.1 frames. That shakes down to a 1-6 tally with a weak 4.56 ERA.

Plenty of profitable trends line up on this investment. Philadelphia has won 13 of its last 16 when facing a foe that allowed five runs or more in their last game, seven of its last nine when facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500, and eight of its last 12 overall. On the other side of the stadium, Colorado has fallen in 50 of its last 68 as a guest, 61 of its last 84 on the road facing a foe that holds a winning record, and four of its last five in the first game of a series.

Resting 2.0-games back in the NL East division and 3.0-games behind in the hunt for the NL Wild Card, the Phillies can’t afford losses to a Rockies bunch that simply can’t win on the road. Take Philadelphia on the run-line with Suarez. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
