Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play August 29th

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, AUGUST 29TH

#927 MILWAUKEE with Ashby (-151) over Minnesota with Jax at 2:10 PM EST
Off three consecutive straight up losses including two straight to the Twinkies, the Brew Crew will pick up the victory on Sunday and avoid the sweep. Minnesota is overachieving right now, especially against some of MLB’s best, and they’ll fall hard in this contest.

Young right-hander Aaron Ashby will hit the hump for the Brewers. So far this season, No. 26 has made four appearances for Milwaukee (three starts) and been tapped for only four earned runs and 11 hits in 8.2 innings. Ashby fanned nine and walked four on his way to an 0-0 mark and a 4.15 ERA. On the road against the Cubs and Pirates, Aaron was at his best too surrendering no earned runs and five hits in 6.0 frames. That’s good enough for an 0-0 mark and a stunning 0.00 ERA.

Greenhorn Griffin Jax will counter for the Twinkies. In his last performance at Boston, No. 83 was smashed for nine earned runs and seven hits in just 4.2 innings of work. Jax fanned four, walked four, served up three home runs, and was tagged with the loss in the Red Sox’s 11-9 victory. Overall, with 48.2 frames in the books this season, Griffin has been slapped for 34 earned runs and 47 hits. That equates to a 3-2 tally with a stiff 6.29 ERA.

There are a handful of power trends that support this wager. Milwaukee has won 12 of its last 16 when playing on Sunday, 40 of its last 54 when facing a foe with a losing record, 22 of its last 30 on foreign soil, and 37 of its last 55 after falling in the first two games of a series. On the other side of Target Field, Minnesota has slipped in 15 of its last 21 at home against a left-handed starter and 13 of its last 18 when coming off a win.

The Brew Crew have a 7.5-game advantage over the Reds in the NL Central and, with a tough four-game series on the road against the Giants on deck, they need this victory badly. Take Milwaukee with Ashby. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
