TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, AUGUST 13TH
#110 DETROIT (-1′) over Buffalo at 7 PM EST
Lions new head coach Dan Campbell is looking to change the culture immediately in the Motor City. Campbell knows that a victory over one of the AFC East’s best can accomplish that mission even if it is just a preseason game.
Technically speaking, this is a lucrative spot for Detroit. Since 2008, the Lions have played well in the exhibition season posting a lucrative 30-18 SU and 30-17-1 ATS mark in their last 48 games. In this run battling a team from the AFC, the Motor City Kitty’s improve to an elite 27-16 SU and 29-14 ATS. Equally impressive, as a preseason home favorite, Detroit has been worth the financial risk notching a reliable 14-4 SU and 11-6-1 ATS record in its last 18 tries.
History won’t exactly be working for visiting Buffalo here either. In the last 11 exhibition meetings between these two non-conference teams, the Bills have struggled posting a soft 2-9 SU and ATS record including a dismal 1-4 SU and ATS mark on the road. Even worse, in preseason lid-lifters priced as a favorite or an underdog of +2.5 or less, Buffy holds a woeful 5-13 SU and 4-14 ATS mark. Finally, when competitively priced between -3 and +2.5 and lined up against a non-conference foe, the Bills have notched a horrible 15-29 SU and 13-29-2 ATS record.
The Lions may be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. However, it’s the preseason and Coach Campbell wants to set the rebuilding tone with a win over a very good Bills squad. Take Detroit. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
