TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, AUGUST 3RD

#907 ATLANTA with Fried (-135) over St. Louis with Lester at 8:15 PM EST
The Braves have alternated wins and losses in their last 17 games and arriving off Sunday’s 2-1 blemish to the Brew Crew, Atlanta will be locked into a serious bounce back mode here.

Up on the bump for the visitors will be left-hander Max Fried. In his last three outings versus the Mets, Phillies, and Devil Rays, No. 54 was tapped for six earned runs and 15 hits in 19.0 innings. Fried fanned 22 and issued seven free passes on his way to a 1-2 record with a solid 2.84 ERA. Actually, Max has been pretty consistent all season long. With 17 starts in the bank, Fried has surrendered 44 earned runs and 91 hits in 91.2 frames. That shakes down to a 7-7 tally with a 4.32 ERA.

Taking the hill for the Redbirds will be veteran southpaw Jon Lester. While with the Nats, No. 34 made 16 starts and was tripped for 42 earned runs and 91 hits in 75.1 innings of work. Lester owned a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 51-29 and carried a 3-5 record with a 5.02 ERA. In 13 career starts against Hotlanta, Jon put together a decent 7-3 tally with a 2.44 ERA.

Technically speaking, this is a lucrative spot for the road team. Atlanta has won 16 of its last 21 when coming off a loss and 35 of its last 51 after scoring two runs or less in its previous game. On the flip side of Busch Stadium, St. Louis has dropped 12 of its last 17 after scoring five runs or more last and five of its last six versus a left-handed starter.

Resting 2.0-games under the .500 mark and 3.5-games back of the division leader, the Braves need this victory like blood. Take Atlanta with Fried. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
