Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play July 29th

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, JULY 29TH

#970 BOSTON with Rodriguez (-120) over Toronto with Ryu at 7:10 PM EST
Off last night’s win in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader and with a chance to grab the series victory, the Red Sox will bring their “A-Game” to Fenway Park tonight. The Blue Jays own a sub-.500 record in division play and they’ll struggle in this spot.

Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will take the hill for the BoSox. With 19 starts in the bank this season, No. 57 has surrendered 56 earned runs and 106 hits in 96.1 innings. Rodriguez carries a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 113-24 and owns a 7-5 mark with a 5.23 ERA. Eduardo has pitched well in this series too. With 16 career appearances against the Jays (15 starts, Rodriguez holds a 5-5 record with a reliable 4.78 ERA.

Southpaw Hyun Jin Ryu will hit the hump for Blue Birds. In his last performance on July 24th in the Big Apple against the Mets, No. 99 was roughed up for three earned runs and 10 hits in only 4.1 inning of work. Ryu fanned four, walked one, and failed to earn a decision in the Jays 10-3 victory. So far, in four career starts against the Sox, Hyun Jin holds a 1-2 tally with a 3.00 ERA.

There are plenty of elite team trends that support this wager. Boston has won four straight in the fourth game of a series, nine of its last 11 at home facing an opponent that owns a winning record, 20 of its last 26 when priced as home chalk, and 29 of its last 40 against AL East foes. On the other side of the yard, Toronto has hit the skids in 51 of its last 76 as a guest battling a left-handed starter and 13 of its last 19 as a guest facing a southpaw.

Clinging to a 2.5-game lead over the Rays in the AL East, the Red Sox need to take care of business in their own backyard in order to keep their advantage. Take Boston with Rodriguez. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
