TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, JULY 27TH
#959 LA DODGERS with Urias (-125) over San Francisco with Webb at 9:45 PM EST
Last week, the Giants took three of four from the Dodgers in Los Angeles and that fact isn’t sitting to well with LA manager Dave Roberts. Still looking up at San Francisco in the NL West (2.0-games behind), Los Angeles will flex its road muscles and pick up a huge win in this spot.
On the mound for the visitors will be southpaw Julio Urias. In his last start on July 21st at home against the Giants, No. 7 tossed a gem allowing only one earned run and three hits in 7.0 innings of work. Urias fanned five and walked only one batter but failed to earn a decision in San Fran’s 4-2 victory. On the road, Julio has been a monster this season. As a guest, Urias has been touched for only 25 earned runs and 51 hits in 65.2 frames. That’s elite enough for a 9-2 tally with a sensational 3.43 ERA.
Sizzling righty Logan Webb will grab the pearl for the home team. Matched up against the Dodgers, Cardinals, and Nationals in his last three July performances, No. 62 was nicked for only three earned runs and nine hits in 12.0 innings. Webb whiffed 11 and walked four on his way to an 0-0 record and a 2.25 ERA. Unfortunately, in five career starts against LA, Logan holds a 1-2 record with a 4.18 ERA.
There are plenty of quality angles that support this Best Bet. Los Angeles has come out on top in 41 of its last 55 when checking in off a day of rest, 73 of its last 105 when coming off a win, 42 of its last 61 in the first game of a series, and 66 of its last 96 matched up against a division foe. On the other side of the chalk line, San Francisco has dropped five of its last seven when priced as a home underdog.
Whether or not the Dodgers win the NL West might depend on how they perform in their six remaining games at Oracle Park. Manager Roberts’ troops know they need this win badly. Take Los Angeles with Urias. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
