TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, JULY 19TH
#962 LA DODGERS with Gonsolin (-117) over San Francisco with Gausman at 10:10 PM EST
Off yesterday’s frustrating loss to the Rockies and with a 1.0-game deficit in the NL West standings behind the Giants, the Dodgers will return to Chavez Ravine and pick up a huge division win. Los Angeles has quietly won 30 of its last 44 in its own backyard and manager Dave Roberts’ troops will roll matched up against one of the best arms in the league.
Up on the bump for visiting San Francisco will be sizzling right-hander Kevin Gausman. With 18 starts in the bank this season, No. 34 has been nipped for only 22 earned runs and 64 hits in 114.2 innings. Gausman holds a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 133-30 and carries a 9-3 record with a stunning 1.73 ERA. However, in his last start at LA back on June 29th, Kevin struggled a touch allowing three earned runs and three hits in 5.0 frames. Gausman walked five, served up one gopher ball, and was tagged with the loss in the Dodgers 3-1 beatdown.
Young right-hander Tony Gonsolin will counter for the home team. So far, in 2021, No. 26 has appeared in seven games for the Dodgers (six starts) and been touched for six earned runs and 18 hits in 25.1 innings of work. Gonsolin has fanned 31 and walked 15 on his way to a 1-0 mark with a solid 2.13 ERA. Tony has been effective at night too. Under the lights, Gonsolin has surrendered only four earned runs and 11 hits in 17.2 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 1-0 mark with a 2.04 ERA
A multitude of powerful team trends support the home team too. Los Angeles has tasted victory in 55 of its last 76 when priced as a home favorite, 42 of its last 59 in the first game of a series, 47 of its last 66 against division foes, and 35 of its last 51 when facing a foe that scored two runs or less last. On the other side of the yard, San Francisco has quietly dropped eight of its last 11 in this NL West series.
After blowing Sunday’s game in the Rocky Mountains, the Dodgers will pull even in the race for the division title with a huge win here. Take Los Angeles with Gonsolin. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
