TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, JULY 17TH
#974 CHICAGO with Giolito (+102) over Houston with Odorizzi at 7:15 PM EST
After getting hammered 7-1 by the ‘Stros last night in their own backyard, the Pale Hose will get after it here. Chicago has played very well inside Guaranteed Rate Field (31-15 SU) and the White Sox will bounce back with a solid effort in the Windy City.
On the bump for the ChiSox will be right-hander Lucas Giolito. In his last performance before the All-Star break at Baltimore, No. 27 was touched for only two earned runs and six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Giolito fanned nine and walked only two and grabbed the dub in Chicago’s 8-3 victory over the Orioles. Pitching at night has worked out well for Lucas too. With the moon shining, Giolito has been scratched for only 17 earned runs and 35 hits in 48.1 frames. After the math, that equates to a 3-1 tally with a strong 3.17 ERA.
Veteran righty Jake Odorizzi will toe the rubber for the visitors. Matched up against the Yankees, Indians, and Tigers in his last three starts, No. 17 was nicked for just three earned runs and 13 hits in 17.0 innings. Odorizzi whiffed nine and walked three en route to a 1-1 mark with a 1.59 ERA. With 11 career starts against the White Sox, Jake has assembled a 3-4 record with a 3.15 ERA.
There are a number of reliable team trends that back this Pale Hose wager too. Chicago has tasted victory in 44 of its last 59 when priced as a home favorite, 47 of its last 66 when playing in the Windy City, 23 of its last 34 when facing a foe that scored five runs or more last, and 13 of its last 19 when fighting a foe that carries a team won/loss percentage greater than .600.
The ‘Stros have dominated the Sox this season winning all five games by the combined score of 34-9. Manager Tony LaRussa’s troops aren’t happy with those numbers, and they’ll be all about revenge in this battle. Take Chicago with Giolito. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
