In a bad mood off back-to-back blowout home losses to the Dodgers (6-1) and Braves (5-0), the Marlins will rally the troops and scoop up a much-needed victory in this contest. Miami has played well at home this season (21-20 SU) and manager Don Mattingly’s troops will get the job done here.
Grabbing the pearl for the home team will be southpaw Trevor Rogers. Matched up against the Dodgers, Phillies, and Blue Jays in his last three starts, No. 28 was nipped for seven earned runs and 13 hits in 15.2 innings. Rogers fanned 23 and walked six on his way to an 0-2 mark with a 4.02 ERA. Overall, with 17 starts in the bank this season, Trevor has been very consistent on the bump. With 97.1 frames completed, Rogers has been popped for only 24 earned runs and 70 hits. That’s good enough for a 7-5 tally with an elite 2.22 ERA.
Left-hander Max Fried will counter for Hotlanta. In his last performance on the road at Pittsburgh, No. 54 was pounded for six earned runs and seven hits in 5.0 innings. Fried walked two and served up one long ball and suffered the loss in the Bucs 11-1 beatdown. The road has been an issue for Max too. On foreign soil, Fried has been hammered for 17 earned runs and 30 hits in only 23.0 frames. That’s bad enough for a 1-2 record with a soft 6.65 ERA.
There are a few quick trends that support this diamond wager. Miami has quietly won four straight in the second game of a series and five of its last seven in South Beach. Meanwhile, Atlanta has fallen in four of its last five on Saturday and six of its last eight as a guest facing an opponent that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .500.
