TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, JULY 2ND

#969 CHICAGO with Lynn (-159) over Detroit with Mize at 7:10 PM EST
On a red-hot 4-0 run, the Pale Hose will travel to the Motor City on Friday night and scoop up another big win. Detroit enters this contest off a huge upset victory at Cleveland and this is going to be a difficult spot for the Tigers.

Veteran right-hander Lance Lynn will toe the rubber for the White Sox. With 14 starts in the bank this season, No. 33 has been in excellent form allowing only 18 earned runs and 55 hits in 78.2 frames. Lynn sports a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 90-23 and carries an elite 7-3 record with a powerful 2.06 ERA. Lance’s efforts under the lights have been solid too. At night, Lynn has been nicked for just 14 earned runs and 37 hits in 45.2 frames. That’s good enough for a 3-2 mark and a strong 2.76 ERA.

Young right-hander Casey Mize will counter for the home team. So far in 2021, No. 12 has made 15 starts for the Tigers and been tripped for 34 earned runs and 74 hits in 88.1 innings. Mize has fanned 71 and walked 26 on his way to a 5-4 tally with a 3.46 ERA. Back on June 3rd in the Windy City, Casey faced the White Sox and was tagged for three earned runs and five hits (three of which left the park) in 7.0 frames. Mize got hit with the loss in the Motor City Kitty’s 4-1 defeat.

Plenty of quality team trends support this investment too. Chicago has won six of its last seven after scoring five runs or more last, 43 of its last 57 when battling a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500., 38 of its last 52 as a favorite, and 46 of its last 66 when matched up against a division foe. On the other side of Comerica Park, Detroit has dropped 35 of its last 51 against the Pale Hose, 52 of its last 77 in the first game of a series, and 89 of its last 130 when coming off a win.

The White Sox own a commanding 5.0-game lead in the AL Central over the Indians, and they’ll pad that mark with another solid performance in the Motor City. Take Chicago with Lynn. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
