TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION MONDAY, JUNE 28TH
#957 CHICAGO with Hendricks (+125) over Milwaukee with Peralta at 8:10 PM EST
Coming off those three losses in LA to the Dodgers, the Cubs will go all out on the division road Monday night when they battle the Brewers. Chicago rests 3.0-games back of Milwaukee for the top spot in NL Central standings and they need this win to stay competitive in this race.
Sizzling right-hander Kyle Hendricks will toe the rubber for the Cubbies. In his last eight starts, No. 28 has been in a zone allowing only 13 earned runs and 44 hits in 52.0 innings of work. Hendricks has fanned 40 and walked seven on his way to a golden 8-0 record with an amazing 2.25 ERA. Kyle has been outstanding on foreign soil too. As a guest, “The Professor” has been touched for only 15 earned runs and 41 hits in 37.2 frames. That’s good enough for a 5-1 tally with an incredible 3.58 ERA.
Young right-hander Freddy Peralta will counter for the Brew Crew. In four June starts against the Diamondbacks, Reds (twice), and Arizona again, No. 51 was nicked for only four earned runs and nine hits in 18.1 innings. Peralta struck out 31 and issued nine free passes on his way to a 2-1 record and a noteworthy 1.96 ERA. Overall, Freddy has appeared in 15 games for the Brewers (14 starts) and been tripped for only 19 earned runs and 37 hits in 81.0 frames. After the math, that equates to a nifty 7-2 mark with an impressive 2.11 ERA.
With both arms capable of tossing a gem, a couple of reliable team trends will prove to be the difference in this division battle. Chicago has quietly won nine of its last 10 against division foes. On the other side of American Family Field, Milwaukee has slipped in five of its last six at home when facing a foe that carries a team won/loss percentage of .500 or better.
In what should be a classic pitcher’s duel, the Cubs will find just enough offense to steal this important victory. Take Chicago with Hendricks. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
