TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, JUNE 27TH
#927 KANSAS CITY with Singer (-115) over Texas with Lyles at 2:35 PM EST
In a bad mood off four consecutive losses including yesterday’s 8-0 blemish to the Rangers, the Royals will bounce back with a solid effort this afternoon. Texas enters this contest off back-to-back straight up victories and this team isn’t reliable enough to win three straight.
Young right-hander Brady Singer will toe the rubber for Kaycee. In his last four performances against the Yankees, Tigers, A’s, and Twins, No. 51 was scratched for only eight earned runs and 22 hits in 18.1 innings of work. Singer whiffed 21 and walked 10 en route to an 0-1 tally with a solid 3.93 ERA. Overall, with 15 starts in the bank this year, Brady has been tapped for 38 earned runs and 77 hits in 71.2 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 3-5 record with a 4.77 ERA.
Righty Jordan Lyles will counter for the Rangers. In his last two trips to the bump versus the Athletics and Astros, No. 24 was zapped for seven earned runs and 12 hits in 10.1 innings. Lyles walked three and served up four bombs on his way to an 0-1 record with an elevated 6.10 ERA. Jordan hasn’t been comfortable pitching in Arlington either. At home, Lyles has been lashed for 23 earned runs and 46 hits in 35.0 frames. That’s bad enough for a 1-1 mark with a lofty 5.91 ERA.
There are a number of team trends that work against the home team too. Texas had dropped 35 of its last 51 when facing a foe that scored two runs or less last, 53 of its last 77 when battling a right-handed starter, 18 of its last 25 against teams from the AL Central, and 32 of its last 44 when facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500.
After dropping the first two games of this series, the Royals will grab a much-needed win before traveling to Boston on Monday and battling the Red Sox. Take Kansas City with Singer. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
