#902 MIAMI with Rogers (-150) over Pittsburgh with De Jong at 4:05 PM EST
Even though the Marlins have dropped seven straight, Miami is in position this afternoon to break that streak and, hopefully, turn the corner. Pittsburgh enters this battle off a pair of solid wins in this series and the Bucs are in prime position to fall. Let’s take a look inside the numbers.

Young left-hander Trevor Rogers will toe the rubber for the visitors. With 11 starts in the bank for the Marlins this season, No. 28 has been scratched for only 13 earned runs and 47 hits in 62.2 innings of work. Rogers has fanned 77, walked 22 and posted a 6-3 overall record with a proud 1.87 ERA. As a guest, Trevor has been outstanding too. On the road, Rogers has surrendered only nine earned runs and 34 hits in 41.2 frames. After the math, that adds up to a 4-2 tally with an elite 1.94 ERA.

Righty Chase De Jong will counter for the home team. With five years of experience in the Bigs with four different teams, No. 37 has been clocked for 44 earned runs and 67 hits in 59.1 innings. De Jong has struck out 40, walked 28 and assembled a 1-5 record with a weak 6.67 ERA. In his lone start for the Pirates back on May 30th at home against Colorado, Chase was crunched for one earned run and three hits in 5.0 frames. De Jong fanned five and walked two but failed to earn a decision in the Rockies 4-3 victory.

A handful of lucrative team trends support this wager. Miami has won five straight in the third game of a series and eight of its last 11 as a favorite. On the other side of the yard, Pittsburgh has slipped in 20 of its last 29 when battling a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .500, 47 of its last 68 when priced as a pup, 37 of its last 53 in the third game of a series, and 43 of its last 60 when facing a southpaw.

In the cellar in the NL East but only 6.0 games back from the leader, the Marlins need to win games like this one especially when one of their best arms hits the bump. Take Miami with Rogers. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
