With a little steam off back-to-back home wins over the Rockies, the Mets will jump all over the visiting Braves in this important NL East matchup. The Boys from the Big Apple own a 2.5-game lead over Philly and Atlanta, and they will be anxious to pad that advantage with a win on Friday night.
Veteran right-hander Taijuan Walker will hit the mound for the Mets. With eight starts in the bank this year, No. 99 has been extremely effective surrendering just 10 earned runs and 25 hits in 44.0 innings. Walker carries a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 41-18 and owns a 3-1 overall mark with an elite 2.05 ERA. At home this season, Taijuan has been lights out too allowing just four earned runs and 14 hits in 24.1 frames. That equates to a 2-0 record and a solid 1.48 ERA.
Young righty Ian Anderson will counter for the visiting Braves. With nine starts completed, No. 36 has been popped for 16 earned runs and 40 hits in 51.0 innings of work. Anderson has struck out 53, walked 21, and served up four home runs on his way to a 4-1 record and a smooth 2.82 ERA. Back on September 19th, 2020, Ian pitched on the road against the Mets and was cracked for three earned runs and four hits in just 4.2 frames. Anderson walked four and took the “L” in the Braves 7-2 blemish.
A handful of quality angles back this diamond wager too. New York has won nine of its last 10 after allowing two runs or less, eight of its last nine in its own backyard, nine of its last 12 when coming off a win and 36 of its last 51 when hosting an opponent that owns a team won/loss percentage less than .500.
