TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, APRIL 3RD

#977 MINNESOTA (BERRIOS) +100 over Milwaukee (Burnes) at 7:10 PM EST
After suffering a heart-breaking 6-5 loss to the Brew Crew in their season opener, the Twins will have no trouble getting back on track with a win in this rematch.

Toeing the rubber for Minnesota will be strong right-hander Jose Berrios. With 12 starts in the bank last year, Berrios was tapped for 28 earned runs and 57 hits in 63.0 innings of work. Jose walked 26 and whiffed 68 on his way to a 5-4 tally and a 4.00 ERA. In his last performance against Milwaukee back on August 20th, 2020, No. 17 tossed a gem allowing no earned runs and one hit in 6.0 frames. Berrios struck out nine, walked only one, and grabbed the 7-1 victory.

Young righty Corbin Burnes will counter for the home team. Last season, Burnes pitched well for the Brewers surrendering 14 earned runs and 37 hits in 59.2 innings. Corbin owned a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 88-24 and posted a solid 4-1 record with a powerful 2.11 ERA. On August 18th, 2020, No. 39 faced the Twinkies and was touched for one earned run and two hits in 5.0 frames. Burnes did walk three in Milwaukee’s 4-3 loss.

With both arms solid, a couple of key angles will provide the assist with this Best Bet. Minnesota has quietly posted victories in 21 of its last 31 when coming off a day of rest and 30 of its last 42 when competing on Saturday. On the other side of the chalk line, Milwaukee has slipped in 17 of its last 25 when coming off a bye and seven of its last 10 when facing a foe that holds a team won/loss percentage less than .400.

In what should be a solid early season pitching battle, the Twins will hold on to a late lead this time and grab their first victory. Take Minnesota with Berrios. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
