TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH
#826 MARYLAND (-2′) over Minnesota at 7 PM EST
Off back-to-back straight up losses at Penn State and in its own backyard to Ohio State, Maryland will bring its “A-Game” to the Xfinity Center on Sunday night and knock off visiting Minnesota. The Golden Gophers enter this Big 10 battle off a pair of straight up home wins over Nebraska and Purdue and they’ll be in serious trouble here.
Peeking at the history in this series, we find that the Terrapins have performed very well inking a proud 9-2 SU and 8-2-1 ATS mark in the last 11 meetings. Equally impressive, at home taking the floor without confidence off a straight up home loss, the Turtles own a spectacular 27-4 SU and 17-7-2 ATS record in their last 31 tries including a highly profitable 16-2 SU and 14-4 ATS if their opponent owns a team won/loss percentage of .600 or better. Finally, Big 10 hosts that are running the floor against a conference foe that arrives off the comforts of two or more home games hold a feeble 75-41 SU and 68-45-3 ATS tally provided their opponent owns a team won/loss percentage of .525 or better.
Fading Minnesota on the road won’t be an issue either. As a Big 10 guest, the Golden Gophers have folded inking a horrible 67-200 SU and 106-158-3 ATS record in their last 267 games including a woeful 49-108 SU and 60-95-2 ATS if they’re lined up against an opponent that arrives off a straight up loss. With those two parameters live and UM priced competitively as a short underdog between +1.5 and +9, the Gophers fall to a horrible 15-63 SU and 21-56-1 ATS including a jaw-dropping 4-39 SU and 6-36-1 ATS if they own a Big 10 won/loss percentage less than .500!
Sure, the Gophers have revenge motivation. But, for the first time this season, the Terrapins will be playing an unranked Big 10 opponent at home and they’ll be sure to make the most of it. Take Maryland. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
