TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH
#749 MOREHEAD ST (-7′) over Tennessee St at 9 PM EST
With a February 13th date at Belmont on deck, Morehead State will try to do something it hasn’t done in the history of its program – win 12 games in a row. The Eagles have ripped off 11 straight victories (9-2 ATS) and, with something massive to play for, head coach Preston Spradlin’s kids will lay it all on the line. Tennessee State limps into this contest on a dismal 3-15 SU and 4-13 ATS run and, with an ugly 0-4 SU and ATS mark in its last four, the Tigers will struggle once again.
If a piece of history won’t keep MSU motivated for this matchup, then the reminder of what happened last year in this series will be more than enough to do the trick. The Eagles dropped two of three to the Tigers including a 74-67 decision in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Owning a respectable 14-2 SU and 11-3 ATS mark in its last 16 games, Morehead State is one of the hottest teams in college basketball too. As a guest in this run, Coach Spradlin’s boys improve to a perfect 6-0 ATS. Lastly, OVC road teams that take the court off a straight up win own a lucrative 27-15 SU and 28-12-2 ATS mark provided they are matched up against a conference foe that scoots in off a straight up loss. If our “play on” side is laying -6 or more, this situation explodes to a powerful 14-0 SU and 13-1 ATS.
This is the ideal place to fade TSU too. In conference play, the Tigers hold a sorry 21-40 SU and 18-36-2 ATS mark in their last 61 games including a rough 6-28 SU and 10-23-1 ATS if they are priced as an underdog. If Tennessee State is going into revenge, this team trend falls to a shocking 1-12 SU and 3-10 ATS. Overall, as a home underdog priced at +6 or more, the Tigers carry a soft 4-34 SU and 14-24 ATS mark in their last 38 tries including an ugly 1-24 SU and 6-19 ATS if they own a conference won/loss percentage less than .350.
The Eagles have a serious conference bear on deck. However, with an opportunity to grab a piece of history, this red-hot MSU squad will swipe one more win and cover before finally meeting its match at Belmont on Saturday. Take Morehead State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
