Tom Stryker’s Free Basketball Play January 22nd

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, JANUARY 22ND

#862 UC IRVINE (-16′) over Cal Poly SLO at 7 PM EST
After dropping a pair at USC and LMU, UC Irvine has responded by posting a golden 4-0 SU and 3-0 ATS record in its last four games. With this being their first Big West battle in 24 days, you can bet your last buck the Anteaters will make the most of it. Let’s break down the numbers.

Dating back to February 1st, 2014, head coach John Smith’s kids have absolutely dominated conference play inking a fabulous 99-26 SU and 71-47 ATS record. In this run hitting the hardwood with confidence off two or more straight up wins, UCI improves to a money-making 58-18 SU and 46-25-4 ATS including a reliable 32-5 SU and 25-10-2 ATS in this set if its opponent checks in off a straight up loss. Also, when playing inside the comforts of the Bren Events Center, the Anteaters hold a respectable 45-10 SU and 28-14-4 ATS record in their last 55 games including a cash rich 37-6 SU and 23-9-2 ATS provided they are not off a blowout win of 17 points or more.

Since knocking off San Jose State in its own backyard on December 13th, 2020, Cal Poly SLO has hit the skids notching a dismal 0-6 SU and 0-5-1 ATS record in its last six games. Things won’t get any easier for the Mustangs here. When checking in without steam off two or more SU and ATS losses, Cal Poly has been at its financial worst posting a terrible 35-57-3 ATS mark including an ugly 18-39-1 ATS if it is competing with revenge of any kind. With those two parameters live and the Mustangs arriving off a war in their own backyard, this team trend falls to a disturbing 6-24 ATS.

Under the direction of skipper Russ Turner, the Anteaters have been a dominant defensive team. Matched up against a Mustangs bunch that is only averaging 61.8 points per game on the offensive side of the court, the Gauchos will have no problems extending the margin in this mismatch. Take UC Irvine. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
