TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, JANUARY 12TH
#634 MARQUETTE (-) over Providence at 9 PM EST
Clinging to a 6-6 SU record (2-4 SU in the Big East) and with losses in four of its last five games, Marquette will crank its game up a notch when Providence checks into Fiserv Forum. The Friars limp into this contest off back-to-back straight up losses to No. 10 Creighton and Xavier by a combined three points and they’ll be emotionally spent for this matchup off those two heartbreaking blemishes.
Revenge motivation will keep MU focused for this conference war too. In a pair of meetings last year against Providence, head coach Steve Wojciechowski’s kids lost them both (0-2 SU and ATS) by margins of one (at home) and 12 (on the road). Thankfully, in the last 26 battles in this series, the Golden Eagles hold a respectable 17-9 SU and ATS mark including a strong 15-3 SU and 14-4 ATS if they are favored. Equally impressive, when playing with revenge from a season ago, Marquette owns a strong 82-54-2 ATS mark including an elite 35-15 SU and 33-15 ATS if it takes the floor off a straight up loss. In this run competitively priced between -4 and +10, the Golden Eagles improve to a profitable 24-4 ATS.
This is a horrible wagering spot for Providence too. When coming off a straight up road loss, the Friars have struggled to get back on track inking a woeful 31-66-2 ATS record in their last 99 lined games. In this role battling an opponent that played in the comforts of home last, this team trend falls to a miserable 14-39-1 ATS including a shocking 3-23 SU and 3-22-1 ATS in this spot if Providence is priced as an underdog. Also, in the second of two or more road games, the Friars hold a timid 10-25 SU and 13-21-1 ATS tally in their last 35 tries.
The Golden Eagles assembled a 2-4 SU Big East mark against five conference foes that currently own a blistering 21-6 SU record. Coach Woj’s boys will find a little success when they step down a touch in class and battle the Friars in this double revenge game. Take Marquette. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
