#388 MISSISSIPPI ST (-18′) over Vanderbilt at 3:30 PM EST
It’s Homecoming in Starkville and head coach Mike Leach knows his Bulldogs need a confidence-building win badly. The visiting Commodores will be the fix that MSU has been craving. Mississippi State has quietly won 10 straight homecoming battles and they’ll show the defenseless ‘Dores no mercy.
A quick peek at the History Book shows that State has dominated this series lately inking a strong 9-2 SU and 8-3 ATS mark in the last 11 meetings. In addition, since 1980, sub .500 home favorites that are priced heaving at -14 or more own a respectable 33-23-1 ATS record provided they arrive off a blowout loss of 28 points or more. If our “play on” side is tackling a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage of .500 or less, this unique technical situation is on a profitable 22-9-1 ATS run including a sweet 20-6 ATS provided their opponent played in the comforts of home. That bodes well for the Bulldogs!
This is going to be a difficult spot for Vanderbilt. Statistically speaking, the Commodores stop unit has been atrocious this season allowing an average of 32.0 points and 436.6 total yards per game. The ‘Dores secondary is getting ripped for an average of 227.8 yards per game and a stunning 8.4 yards per pass. That’s going to be an issue matched up against an MSU offense that loves to pitch the ball around the yard. To make matters worse, Vandy is on a dismal 3-14 SU and 3-13 ATS run in its last 17 games including a disturbing 0-10 ATS provided they check in off an SEC war. In addition, when tackling a foe that takes the field without confidence off a straight up loss, the ‘Dores hold a shocking 0-10 ATS tally as well.
The Bulldogs are the proud owners of the second-hardest schedule in the nation in 2020 and it hasn’t been easy out of the gate. Thankfully, this game against Vanderbilt is a huge step down in class for MSU and Coach Leach’s boys will take full advantage of that fact. Take Mississippi State. Thanks and best of luck, Tom
