TOM STRYKER’S FREE FOOTBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24TH

#344 PURDUE (+3′) over Iowa at 3:30 PM EST
With head coach Jeff Brohm on the shelf battling COVID-19, little brother Brian Brohm will take over on the sidelines for Purdue and help lead the Boilermakers to a victory in their season opener over the Hawkeyes. Quietly, the Boilers have tasted victory in 20 of their last 22 home openers and they’ll be primed and ready to pull off this upset.

After winning two straight in this series in 2017 and 2018, PU (+17.5) traveled to Iowa last year and dropped a hard-fought 26-20 decision to the Hawkeyes. The memory of that defeat will surely have Coach Brohm’s kids highly motivated for this matchup. Technically speaking, the Boilermakers apply to a solid season-opening system that holds a strong 58-27 ATS record and that will certainly help our cause. In addition, since the start of the 2020 season, conference home dogs have inked a proud 27-13-1 ATS record. Lastly, in their last seven priced as a home pup, Purdue has notched a nearly perfect 6-1 ATS mark.

Under the direction of quarterback Spencer Petras, Iowa will have some problems early in the season. Petras has played in just three games since 2018 and the sophomore owns a grand total of 11 pass attempts. As it stands, on the Big 10 road priced as an underdog or a favorite of -3.5 or less, Iowa owns a soft 9-16 SU and 10-15 ATS record. In this setting going into revenge, the Hawkeyes fall to a dismal 3-6 ATS. Also, since the beginning of the COVID-19 season, college football favorites priced at -3 or more have experienced some trouble posting a dismal 52-75-3 ATS record. In this role tackling a conference foe, our “play against’ piece of chalk slips to a woeful 35-58-3 ATS mark.

Under head coach Jeff Brohm’s direction, the Boilermakers have been a force offensively averaging 27.2 points and 413.9 total yards per game. If PU gets that here, it will be more than enough to pull off this upset. Take Purdue. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
