TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH
#966 KANSAS CITY with Bubic (-175) over Detroit with Fulmer at 8:05 PM EST
With wins in two of their last three games including yesterday’s 12-3 beating over the Cardinals, the Royals will have no trouble pounding this poor-traveling Tigers bunch.
Hitting the hill for Kaycee will be young southpaw Kris Bubic. With three September starts in the bank, No. 50 was scratched for three earned runs and 11 hits in 17.1 innings of work. Bubic whiffed 17 and walked seven on his way to a 1-2 mark with a respectable 1.56 ERA. It is noted that the Royals are just 1-8 in Kris’ nine starts this season. However, the greenhorn’s numbers aren’t bad at all. With 45.1 frames completed, Bubic has been nipped for only 20 earned runs and 44 hits. Kris holds a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 44-19 and owns a solid 3.97 ERA.
Veteran right-hander Michael Fulmer will take the hill for the Motor City Kitty’s. In his last three performances against the Indians, White Sox and Twins, No. 32 was smashed for nine earned runs and 14 hits in 8.0 innings. Fulmer struck out three and walked three en route to an 0-2 mark with a feeble 10.13 ERA. The road hasn’t been a safe place for Big Mike either. As a guest, Fulmer has been pounded for 14 earned runs and 21 hits in just 11.0 innings. After the math, that equates to an 0-2 mark and a horrible 11.45 ERA.
There are plenty of reasons not to like the Tigers in this contest. Detroit has dropped 128 of its last 182 as an underdog, 78 of its last 111 against AL Central foes and 31 of its last 39 after battling six or more division opponents in a row.
Even though the Royals won’t be participating in the 2020 MLB Playoffs, manager Mike Matheny would love to see his young lefty pick up this victory. The Tigers are a team this kid can handle. Take Kansas City with Bubic. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
