With wins in three of their last four games including yesterday’s 7-4 victory over the Tigers, the Indians will give the White Sox fits on Monday night. Chicago enters this contest off a road win at Cincinnati on Sunday and this will be a tough encore for the Pale Hose.
Young right-hander Aaron Civale will toe the rubber for the Indians. In three September starts against the Cubs, Royals and Brewers, No. 43 was touched for nine earned runs and 19 hits in 18.0 innings of work. Civale whiffed 16 and walked seven on his way to an 0-1 record and a 4.00 ERA. At night, Aaron has been at his best too. With the lights on, Civale has surrendered just 17 earned runs and 44 hits in 46.0 frames. After the math, that equates to a 2-3 tally with a respectable 3.33 ERA.
Greenhorn righty Dane Dunning will counter for the visitors. With five starts in the bank (all ChiSox wins), No. 51 has been scratched for seven earned runs and 16 hits in 27.0 innings. Dunning has whiffed 28 and walked nine en route to a 2-0 record and a 2.33 ERA. In his last performance at home against the Twinkies, Dane was cracked for one earned run and three hits in 7.0 frames. Dunning whiffed seven, walked two and served up one homerun on his way to a 6-2 victory.
With two solid arms opposing each other, the team trends surrounding this game will prove to be the difference. Chicago has dropped 84 of its last 124 on foreign soil facing a foe with a winning record and five of its last six when priced as a road underdog. On the other side of the yard, Cleveland has quietly won 16 of its last 23 over the Sox in the comforts of home.
