TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH

#964 ATLANTA with Wright (-120) over Miami with Sanchez at 7:10 PM EST
After getting tripped up by the Marlins on Labor Day, the Braves will get back on track with a much needed victory on Tuesday night. Atlanta’s lead is down to just 2.0-games over Philadelphia and manager Brian Snitker’s kids can’t afford any more home losses to division foes.

Getting a chance to earn his keep for Hotlanta one more time will be right-hander Kyle Wright. With four starts in the bank this season, No. 81 has been roughed up for 12 earned runs and 17 hits in 15.0 innings of work. Wright fanned 12 and walked 16 on his way to an 0-3 tally with a dismal 7.20 ERA. Revenge will be on Kyle’s mind this evening too. Back on August 14th, Wright faced the Fish and was tagged for three earned runs and two hits in 3.0 frames. Control was an issue for Kyle in that outing as he issued six free passes. Wright worked on throwing strikes at the alternate site and he is ready to make a statement here.

Young gun Sixto Sanchez will get the nod for the visiting team. So far this season, No. 73 has made three starts against the Blue Jays, Devil Rays and Nationals and allowed only five earned runs and 18 hits in 19.0 innings. Sanchez struck out 19 and issued only one free pass en route to a 1-1 tally with a 2.37 ERA. Those numbers are certainly respectable. However, all three of those performances came in the comforts of home. This will be Sixto’s first road start and he will be challenged by a very good hitting Braves bunch. Hotlanta is ranked third in the league in runs per game (5.51) and fifth in batting average (.266).

Plenty of quality team trends back this Best Bet. Atlanta has tasted victory in 44 of its last 61 as home chalk, 69 of its last 96 as a favorite overall and 21 of its last 30 in the second game of a series. On the other side of the lawn, Miami has slipped in 89 of its last 132 on foreign soil, 23 of its last 34 coming off a win and 49 of its last 71 in the second game of a series.

The NL East is starting to tighten up with only 5.5-games separating four solid teams. The Braves know home wins will be essential for them in order to stay on top in the division. Take Atlanta with Wright. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
