Tom Stryker’s Free Baseball Play August 28th

TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION FRIDAY, AUGUST 28TH

#906 PHILADELPHIA with Wheeler (-140) over Atlanta with Erlin at 7:05 PM EST
The Braves just took two of three from the Phillies at home in a series from August 21st to August 23rd. Rest assured, with a little momentum off back-to-back wins over Washington, Philadelphia will be jacked up and ready for this huge revenge situation.

On the mound for the home team will be right-hander Zack Wheeler. With five performances in the 2020 bank, No. 45 has been touched for just 10 earned runs and 30 hits in 32.7 innings. Wheeler whiffed 20 and walked only six on his way to a proud 3-0 mark and a tremendous 2.76 ERA. Finding motivation for this matchup will be easy for Zack. Back on August 22nd, Wheeler got the call against Hotlanta and surrendered just two earned runs and five hits through 7.0 frames. Zack struck out eight and didn’t walk a single batter but failed to earn a decision in the 6-5 loss.

Left-hander Robbie Erlin will get the nod for the visiting Braves. Since coming over from Pittsburgh, Erlin has appeared in three games for Atlanta (two starts) and been crunched for six earned runs and seven hits in 10.2 innings. Robbie fanned 13 and walked two on his way to an 0-0 tally and an elevated 5.06 ERA. Overall, with seven years of MLB experience in the books, Erlin has been spanked for 167 earned runs and 348 hits in 327.0 frames. That equates to a dismal 13-20 mark and a feeble 4.60 ERA.

There are a few reliable trends that assist this investment. Philadelphia has tasted victory in seven of its last nine in division play and five of its last seven at home against a left-handed starter. On the other side of the chalk line, Atlanta has fallen in eight of its last 11 coming off a day of rest and 12 of its last 13 when priced as a road underdog.

After taking two from the Bronx Bombers on Wednesday and grabbing a day of rest, the Braves will have a little trouble trying to shake off the dust in this NL East war. Take Philadelphia with Wheeler. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
