TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION THURSDAY, AUGUST 27TH
#956 ARIZONA with Gallen (-149) over Colorado with Freeland at 6:10 PM EST
Even though the Diamondbacks have dropped eight straight, the money-line on this game (-160) is screaming for an Arizona wager. The D’Backs last three against the Rockies have all resulted in one-run losses. This time the home team finally gets over the hump.
In order to stop the bleeding, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo will hand the pearl to right-hander Zac Gallen. With six starts completed in 2020, No. 23 has been impressive on the bump allowing nine earned runs and 26 hits in 36.0 innings of work. Gallen has whiffed 42 and walked 12 on his way to a 0-0 record and a proud 2.25 ERA. The fact that this game is being played inside Chase Field is a bonus for us too. At home, Zac has been lights out in eight career starts posting a 2-1 mark with a sensational 2.27 ERA. The D’Backs own a nearly perfect 7-1 mark in those eight battles.
Countering for the visitors will be southpaw Kyle Freeland. In his last four performances against the Dodgers, Astros, Diamondbacks and Giants, No. 21 has been slapped for 10 earned runs and 26 hits in 25.2 innings of work. Freeland has whiffed 15 and walked six en route to an 0-1 tally with a 3.51 ERA. History won’t be working for the Rocks either. In 14 career outings against ‘Zona, Kyle has put together a soft 3-4 mark with an elevated 5.47 ERA.
There are a handful of elite trends that support this elite investment. Arizona has quietly won 20 of its last 26 after scoring five runs or more in its last game and eight of its last 11 at home when facing a left-handed pitcher. On the visitor’s side of the field, Colorado has dropped 38 of its last 54 as a road underdog and 35 of its last 52 when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous game.
It’s tough to bet into a streak especially when it’s not working in your favor. However, the Diamondbacks have the better arm on the bump in a very reliable spot. Combine that with a little history and a few power angles and you have more than enough support for this investment. Take Arizona. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
