TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASEBALL SELECTION SATURDAY, AUGUST 15TH

#961 TAMPA BAY with Yarbrough (-) over Toronto with Anderson at 6:37 PM EST
After winning six straight, the Devil Rays got rocked by the Blue Jays 12-4 in their series opener on Friday. Rest assured, Tampa Bay will return the favor in this American League war.

On the bump for the Rays will be left-hander Ryan Yarbrough. With four starts to his credit this year, No. 48 has been touched for 11 earned runs and 19 hits in 21.0 innings. Yarbrough has struck out 13 and walked seven on his way to a surprising 0-2 mark with a 4.71 ERA. History will be working well for us here. With 10 career outings against the Blue Jays in the books (including three starts), Ryan has assembled a sweet 6-1 mark with a stunning 2.14 ERA. Back on July 25th, Yarbrough faced Toronto at home and surrendered no earned runs and four hits in 5.1 frames. Unfortunately, Ryan failed to earn a decision in Tampa’s 4-1 victory.

Veteran righty Chase Anderson will toe the rubber for the Blue Jays. Since coming over from Milwaukee, No. 22 has made one start against Boston and allowed one earned run and one hits in just 3.0 innings of work. Anderson fanned one and walked a pair but failed to earn a decision in the Jays 2-1 win over the BoSox. An oblique strain had kept Chase on the shelf to start the season and it’s going to take a few more games before this workhorse hits his stride on the mound.

Solid history rides this investment up too. Tampa Bay has quietly posted wins in 28 of the last 41 meetings between these two AL foes. In addition, there is an elite scoring angle that supports this Best Bet. Over the past five years, Major League Baseball teams that allowed 12 runs or more in their last contest have tasted victory in 48 of their last 74 games provided their opponent has scored a combined 15 runs or more over their last two games. That bodes well for the Rays.

The Blue Jays are swinging a hot bat right now. Thankfully, the Rays have the right arm on the mound to cool them down. Take Tampa Bay with Yarbrough. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
