TOM STRYKER’S FREE BASKETBALL SELECTION SUNDAY, MARCH 1ST
#816 HOUSTON (-) over Cincinnati at 1 PM EST
Off the frustrating one-point road loss at Memphis and with revenge from a 64-62 blemish suffered at Cincinnati back on February 1st, Houston will bounce back with a massive effort on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats make the trek to the Fertitta Center off a huge home win over the Shockers and they’ll have their hands full in this American matchup.
If you take a look at the History Book, you’ll find that UC has actually won two straight in this series. Before the loss a month ago, the Bearcats (+5) upset the Cougars 69-57 in AAC Tournament Final last season. UH head coach Kelvin Sampson and his boys haven’t forgotten about either beating and they’ll be out for a little payback. When coming off a straight up loss, Houston has been in a zone posting a strong 26-4 SU (15-12 ATS) record in its last 30 games. In this run holding a team won/loss percentage of .750 or better, the Cougars jet to a reliable 16-0 SU and 10-4 ATS. Also, when battling with revenge of any kind, Coach Sampson’s troops own a jaw-dropping 34-18 SU and 35-16-1 ATS mark in their last 52 games including a profitable 16-8 SU and 18-6 ATS in this set provided their opponent arrives with confidence off a straight up win.
This is going to be a difficult wagering spot for Cincy. When stepping up in class and fighting a foe that owns a team won/loss percentage of .750 or better, the Bearcats own a weak 18-29 ATS tally provided their opponent is not off a straight up loss of three points or more. In this role priced as an underdog or a favorite of -7.5 or less, Cincinnati falls to a miserable 10-25 ATS. Even worse, in their last 20 true road wars, UC holds a feeble 6-14 ATS mark including a horrible 1-7 SU and ATS provided the ‘Cats are priced as an underdog or a favorite of -1.5 or less. Finally, as a pup checking in with confidence off a straight up win, Cincy holds a dismal 36-99 SU and 53-80-2 ATS mark including a woeful 10-48 SU and 19-39 ATS record provided they check in off the comforts of a home game.
The Cougars and Bearcats both hold identical 11-4 SU marks in the conference and are looking up at the first-place Golden Hurricane with a 12-4 SU tally. Well rested, in double-revenge and off a straight up loss, Coach Sampson will make sure his troops are tied for the top spot after this battle. Take Houston. Thanks and best of luck, Tom.
